West Seattle Weather Watch: ‘High wind warning’ now in effect

(Photo added 5:14 pm – Tom Marx‘s view from Alki Avenue as the Vashon Water Taxi headed west)
4:36 PM: Now the National Weather Service says we could see gusts as high as 60 mph – so it has upgraded the weather alert to “high wind warning” until 8 tonight. Read the alert here. No notable West Seattle power outages so far (just a one-customer dot in Arbor Heights on the map at the moment).

6:12 PM: Added that photo by Lisa Guthrie, taken from Beach Drive. Meantime, Christopher Boffoli texted to say Constellation Park had at least two TV crews doing wind-and-waves live shots just before sunset. (We’ll have photos and video from him later.) P.S. Kenna Klosterman just shared a photo featuring one of those truck’s masts in the foreground of the waves off Beach Drive:

Wind is rocking the house in south Fauntleroy.

A tad windy on Genesee Hill!

South of Brace Point, the living room floor, at 18 1/2 feet off the ground, is creaking from the deck moving outside. Not sure if that last ferry is going to be able to dock at Fauntleroy. Moved away from the sliding glass doors…

    ARE YOU KIDDING?

Yes, indeed. I remember the Inauguration Day storm; Bill Clinton’s, that is. I well remember the bowed in sliding glass doors of our condo facing west. Scary.

Is it me or has there been more wind storms this winter than in past memory?

  • Genesee Hill March 10, 2011 (6:15 pm)

Pretty normal in my opinion. No devastating windstorms this year. Knock on wood!

Ah, the Inauguration Day storm, the day Belltown rained white plastic lawn chairs.

  • JoB March 10, 2011 (7:04 pm)

windy enough to blow a plastic greenhouse with full pots anchoring it off a covered patio..
    that’s windy enough for me

Agree with you KCH. No devasting ones…but a number of doozies nonetheless.

I was also remembering the Inaugural Day storm! I remember watching, from my car on my commute, a big fir tree branch just sailing through the air above Fauntleroy. Then of course the long power outage – several days for us that time.

The old-growth bull pine next to our house is alive with gail force winds . . . please don’t break oh majestic one.
