Update: Nobody hurt in Westwood Village crash

Thanks to Donna at Giannoni’s Pizza for sending that photo of a car crash at Westwood Village. More info to come, but from the first photos, looks like the car just nosed into one of the Pier 1 Imports front windows.

8:58 PM UPDATE: SPD tells us that just after 8 PM tonight, the woman driving the Toyota Camry jumped the curb and drove into the front window of Pier 1. They say it appears the car was parked out front and that she intended to put the car into reverse and pull away but accidentally put the car into drive. There were no injuries. Fire crews remain at the scene securing the broken glass and boarding up the window. The store manager tells us that a glass repair company is on the way and that the store will be open for business as usual tomorrow. Video and more photos to come.

9:30 PM UPDATE: Adding a few pictures from Christopher Boffoli:

10:26 PM UPDATE: Here’s Christopher’s brief video clip:

I guess that’s what you call window shopping!

oh, wow. I wonder if it’s a stick shift. One of my kids did a similar thing when he was 16, but not into a store window, thank goodness. I feel for the young gal.

I bet she was so embarrassed! I know I would have been…

Hmm. Aren’t Toyotas the cars that have jumped curbs, gone through backs of garages as well as fronts of buildings, and had accelerator-mistaken-for-brakes problems that led to recalls? Maybe related?

Thanks a million to the fire crews and officers who came to help. The firefighters went “above and beyond” by removing glass, twisted metal and even sweeping. What could have been a really scary incident for my staff and the driver was handled professionally and with good humor! What an exciting tuesday evening!!

Glad everyone is ok. This could have been very bad. Thanks to SFD fo the great resonse, easier to get more then you need then need it and not have it. FWIW the City may be looking at cutting staffing to some firehouses in the city, what that would mean is not only would you not get the same response but some of the units may be out of service when you need them. Perhaps 11truck or sfdlt may respond with more info. I hope I got those IDs right.

The first picture clearly says “Imports”. Is a Camry not an import?

Umm, doesn’t sound like a ‘young’ gal. A lot of older people do this type of thing. They get confused with where to put it in reverse and there you go. Sorry to be so crass but it’s true.

Just for clarification since you mentioned it: Our original copy had “young” in it and that’s what the person was commenting on. I edited it out because I’ve been burned too many times by the subjective use (by myself or people working with me) of “young,” “old,” etc. But per Christopher, who covered the story, this was definitely not a case of “senior citizen hits wrong pedal” … I do NOT have an exact age, however, and am not likely to … TR

    whether you like or not.

I’ve never lived anywhere with so many bad drivers. Glad the person was ok, but this seems to happen all the time here…

I applaud the fire crew. When I saw them in the photos pushing brooms I was tickled. What a kind and considerate thing to do.

Joe: I have lived previously in Ballard & Beacon Hill. I’ll take West Seattle any day. ;0) A drive through Beacon Hill means narrowly avoiding

Many years ago, my Mom put a Celica into D instead of R by accident, hit the gas, and went right back into the restaurant she and my Dad had just left. Through a window. Only pride and a bumper damaged but I understand the driver’s situation

Sorry, comment time is over.
