High-school postseason basketball: Chief Sealth IHS win, West Seattle HS loss

Final scores are in from both of tonight’s postseason high-school boys’ basketball games: At Chief Sealth International High School, the Seahawks beat Eastside Catholic, 61-50; West Seattle High School lost its road game at Lakeside, 57-42.

ADDED: Sealth advances to the next round. More on tonight’s home game, ahead:

From WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand:

Chief Sealth overcame some ball handling problems in the first half to beat Eastside Catholic 61-50 on the first night of the 3A Metro League tournament. They move on to play Lakeside at home on Thursday night, after Lakeside defeated West Seattle tonight, 57-42.

It was the second time in two weeks that the Crusaders played the Seahawks by roughly the same margin. Both teams tried to put on something of a running game in the first half, but that failed to materialize as Sealth literally had a problem getting a grip on the ball for part of the first half. In the second half they put up two scoring runs against Eastside, both time led by senior guard Keon Lewis, who had 23 points on the night. For the first three quarter Lewis shot from either the far perimeter or from underneath the basket. His last six points all came from being fouled in the fourth quarter.

Sealth once again went to a tight swarming defense, as you can see from this exchange in the third quarter.

Sealth is one of four teams in the Metro League ranked by the Seattle Times and all four played tonight. Number one O’Dea beat number four Seattle Prep 72-61 and in an upset, unranked Franklin beat number two Rainier Beach 78-70.

Go Sealth. However the fact that franklin got to play in the semis and we didn’t is a crock, afterall we beat them by 16.

Sorry, comment time is over.
