Look who’s open already: Bird on a Wire ‘Deux’ in Admiral

We missed the early-warning tweet, but a note from customer Chris (thank you!) brought word that Bird on a Wire Espresso‘s new second location is open as of this morning in the Heavenly Pastry ex-storefront between Alki Bike and Board (WSB Holiday Shopping Guide sponsor) and Linda’s Flowers and Gifts. So we went over to procure photographic proof, and found Bird proprietor Heidi Herr pulling (as well as calling) the shots. Hours for the new venture, per Heidi: 6 am-2 pm Mondays-Fridays, 7 am-2 pm Saturdays, 8 am-2 pm Sundays. (The original Bird location is still open, 35th/Henderson in Westwood – as Heidi noted when announcing this just two weeks ago, this is an expansion, not a replacement.)

Why are they closing so early? I don’t get it. I will probably never make it there during those limited hours. Seems like they’re making the same mistake the other bakery did. I saw lots of people comment that the hours were horrible of that bakery that closed. Are they just doing the same hours the other place did?

YAY!!! Welcome to the ‘hood. I hated to see that great location being an empty storefront. I’m so glad that you’re open!

    Yea! See you tomorrow!

I’m pretty sure her initial hours are a “figuring it out” period. Heidi’s other “Bird” is in our ‘hood…she’ll accommodate other hours after feeling out the business for a while and if it warrants it…that’s what she did here. Just go in to talk with her and she’ll take it all in and go from there.

I have to ditto onceachef… they used to have pretty limited hours at the other location, but have continued to expand on the hours and offerings for the three years I’ve been going there. You will fall in love with the coffee and the service and become a devotee yourself. Congrats to Heidi and the whole Bird crew!

The hours actually make sense for that location. Opening 3-5 hours earlier than the other place did, And being open on all the weekdays!

Heavenly Bakery did not open until midday..sort of puts the early morning, I need coffee on the way to work crowd out of business. These hours reflect that..and I’m betting she’ll expand as demand warrants. Let’s support her, and see what happens :)

This is a great addition for the Admiral District. Now you can enjoy Hiedi’s unique sense of humor, great service, and good coffee. Just as we have at the original Bird for a few years. Now we will stop in at the new Bird as well.

Go, Heidi, go! I couldn’t be happier for you, and for the Admiral neighborhood, too. Great coffee, atmosphere, and such a smart, fun – and funny! – woman running the joint. Keep on doing what you’re doing, sister!

Just an update that “Bird Deux” is up and running in the Heavenly Pastry space at 2604 California Ave SW. Heavenly Pastry will continue their wholesale operations at that location and has graciously invited the Bird to “nest” with them, running their former retail operation (they will also provide us pastries-what’s YOUR favorite?!). Thanks so much for all your comments and do please stop by, we are interested in meeting our new Admiral community! Hours are 6am to 2pm Mon-Fri, Sat 7am to 2pm and Sun 8am to 2pm. We certainly do anticipate extending those hours…stay tuned!

Bird, thank you for your comment because I was thinking the whole time, “Can I get Heavenly items at Bird Deux… And everyone, if you say you will come later, then own up to it. I know of many shops that offer later hours because people request them and then nobody comes in. I think this is a great match and I wish you the best of luck!

I would like to welcome Heidi and Bird On A Wire to the neighborhood as well. As we struggle to get through the “hard times” and major construction projects it is important to remember the Starbucks of the world will do just fine. We have to make the choice to support local families and businesses. It is great to see another brave entrepreneur as a neighbor. Lets show our support.

Admiral is lucky to have our great Westwood Bird up in your neighborhood. Their coffee is THE best and Heidi’s a smart and savvy businesswoman who will expand as she gets a feel for the neighborhood and what it will support. Fantastic to have another successful, local business! YEAH!
