West Seattle Crime Watch: One car found, another one gone

Two car-theft stories in this afternoon’s West Seattle Crime Watch update: First, if you didn’t catch it playing out in the comment section, Lee confirms that his stolen “beater” Acura – first reported here – is indeed the car that Kath spotted. (He also provided an update on its post-theft condition.) The site where it was found is less than a mile from where it was stolen. Meantime, we have a new car-theft (and prowl) report from a few miles south – click ahead:

From Rich:

I got up this morning to find that my car had been broken into and my wife’s car was stolen. We live in the 6700 block of Murray Ave SW, about three blocks from Lowman Beach Park [map].

My wife’s car is a 2005 baby blue convertible VW Beetle, license number 695 — (WA). The convertible top is gray, with gray leather interior. There was an orange flower in the vase holder, and a toddler’s car seat in the back.

What’s odd is that my car (a 2007 VW Passat) was broken into and the contents rifled, but it’s got electronic locks and an alarm system… somehow the thieves were able to by-pass it. And unfortunately, I had a spare key to my wife’s Beetle in my center console. It appears they found the key in my car and then decided to boost it. The GPS was also stolen.

A neighbor found the owner’s manual, registration and insurance card (that had been in the glove box), tossed on the street while riding his bike up Lincoln Park Way SW.

A police report has been filed. Not sure if this was an unfortunate circumstance and bad luck, or if this is part of a larger crime spree in the area, but neighbors should be aware. If anybody sees the car, they should contact the Seattle Police Department, SW Precinct.

On another note I was pulled over today. No ticket but cop advised me that someone had stolen my tab off my lic. I called my husband and he noticed his was scraped off 2! I don’t know when this happened since we don’t usually look at our back plates. We live up near the junction….

If your tab gets stolen do you have to pay for a replacement or can you just request one?
