Election countdown: Quick toplines on tonight’s forum

(Part 1 of 3 unedited segments comprising tonight’s candidates’ forum in White Center)
It’ll be the wee hours before we finish the full story, but for election-watchers, we wanted to let you know we’ve written a very quick first summary of tonight’s North Highline Unincorporated Area Council-presented candidates’ forum in White Center’s Greenbridge neighborhood, featuring both candidates in each of our area’s open-seat races: King County Council District 8 and 34th District State House Position 2. That quick summary is up right now at partner site White Center Now. We also recorded the forum on video in its entirety – nothing artistic, we’ll warn you, but in case you want to see/hear for yourself, we’re putting it on the record in three unedited segments comprising the entire 2 1/2 hours – what’s embedded above is Part 1. ADDED 11:19 PM: And here’s part 2:

12:47 PM: And part three:

Again – full story to come!

Thank you so much for filming this! I’ve only watched part 1 so far, but I must say: Heavey did not answer the question about inclusionary zoning….it seems he is not familiar with it. Fitzgibbon is incredibly impressive and has a firm grasp of the issues. IMO

I attended the NHUAC Forum last night and Diana Toledo was great! She’s a real candidate that is representing the people and not the political machine.

Her opponent Joe McDermott was obviously frazzled, to the point where he has a mini-meltdown shouting and apparently trying to grab the microphone. Wow, if he can’t debate without melting down how in the word would he work with other members of the King County Council???

Diana Toledo did a great job and she easily won my vote last night!

Fitzgibbon was impressive. Heavey seemed like a decent candidate, and the two appeared to share similar views, but Fitzgibbon explained his positions with great clarity. Quite the opposite of Diana Toledo. Her answers were frustratingly vague, and even off topic. She told one audience member to visit her website to learn her position on a basic issue. The person came to the candidate forum to ask a question and get an honest response, not be directed to consult the internet. A lot of obfuscation from Toledo throughout the night. Wasn’t familiar with her before, but was very put off by her performance.

    I watched…Um… the forum..um… one of the…um…King County Council…Um…candidates…um…. had a hard time…Um…getting his point across..um…because he kept pausing…um…

Sorry Joe… Um… Your answers were just to hard to…um…follow…um.

As for Diana, I believe when she referred you to her website it was to view her new campaign video which she said is fun and breaks away from the attack ads. She was not deflecting an answer.

I recommend everyone just watch the video. Ps – Who else was offended when Joe got in Diana’s face? Not very professional.

AT, that is a false and defamatory accusation. I didn’t pull a single edit in this. I turned off the camera for a couple of seconds inbetween segments to keep the files from getting to be too large (although the final file runs more than an hour), and made those switches while there was a transition between people answering questions. Otherwise, we are missing a short bit of the introduction at the very start of the event. The questioners are not on camera because my camera was fixed at candidate level and they were standing (although I lifted it up when Diana Toledo stood up for her closing statement), but the audio continues. Again, THIS WAS UNEDITED as I stated, and I would appreciate you retracting your accusation. – Tracy
