West Seattle Crime Watch: Sentimental sculpture stolen; 4 more

Five West Seattle Crime Watch reports this afternoon – starting with a theft that netted loot whose owners are hoping they’ll somehow get it back. They signed themselves “Disappointed in Alki“:

We live in Alki on Halleck Ave. SW just off 53 Avenue [map]. Sometime in the past 24 hours we had a few things stolen from the steps of our front porch. Now, it may sound insignificant but along with a few pots with herbs in them a small Indian statue was stole which has HUGE sentimental value to us. I’m guessing it was just kids being stupid but the fact that someone walked up our steps, were literally at our front door and stole something that that is very special to us and cannot be replaced feels awful and breaks our hearts. If this is posted and by chance the person who took is reading this post, can you do the right thing? Can you please bring back our little Indian sculpture… no questions asked, we promise, you would not believe how important it is to us. We have always felt so safe and comfortable in our little home on a dead end road, this is a sad wake-up call.

(In case you see something – we verified, that’s “Indian” as in South Asia, not as in Native American.) Four more reports ahead:

From Michael:

My 95 Ford Taurus was broken into last night. I forgot to take the face plate of my nice JVC radio and it was removed neatly and is missing this morning. The rest of the car was searched but there was nothing else in the car to take. Reported to the police this morning. Location: 3000 block 42nd SW [map]

One night earlier, Kate was hit by car prowler(s):

Just letting you know that items were stolen from our unlocked car last
night(8/4)… nice sunglasses and an iPhone car adapter. We live on 37th Ave SW off Thistle [map]. Granted, it’s our mistake, but still unsettling.

Bicycle thieves hit Brian B on Wednesday night:

(O)ur two bicycles were stolen from the second floor landing at our apartment building located on California Ave. near Morgan Junction. The thief cut through two bike locks, one on the railing and one on each other, to steal them.

And though this happened a few weeks ago, L doesn’t have the car back yet, so e-mailed us about it today:

Stolen the night of July 21, out of my driveway near Genesee and Delridge Way, my gray 2-door 1986 Ford Escort, license 196VTC. It’s a 2-door, in good shape (prior to theft!), had a black and yellow bike rack on hatchback door. It’s an old car, but it’s all I had to get my child and me to work, appointments etc. Please call 911 if you seen this stolen vehicle.

Over $6,000 worth of goods were stolen from our storage unit at Public Storage on Avalon Way, between July 14th and July 30th. Police were called. District manager for Public Storage was called but has not returned my call. Employees had keys. Locks were not broken. Appears to be an inside job. Stolen goods include, Pearl drum set 6 pc, 11 Zildjian cymbals, hardware, Fender electric guitar & amp, Trek bicycle, martial arts weapons a Philco Radio, an antique copper fire extinguisher, and an extensive collection of toy and model VW bugs & busses.

On May 24, my storage unit at Public Storage on Avalon was broken into, and over $20,000 of goods were taken. China, Sterling silver, jewelry, a large ornate mirror, coffee table, stainless steel anesthesia machine, a large steamer trunk filled with kitchenware, many family mementos and boxes filled with other items disappeared. It would have taken several people and a large truck to move all of the pieces in one day. I was very disappointed that the employees did not call all my available numbers and communicate immediately that there had been a break-in and that my unit was trashed (torn boxes, broken glass, items tossed around). Apparently the cameras were “not on” that day, and nothing has been recovered. I had two locks on the door that must have been cut through to get into the unit (and I had to pay for a replacement lock!).

Sorry to read about the Alki sculpture and Public Storage on Avalon major thefts! It’s really disturbing that the security has been so poor there.

WE live in North Admiral and we had two bike racks stolen off our car on Saturday night. Very disappointing. We filed a police report.

Someone attempted to steal the bike racks off my car Saturday evening near Genesee. Couldn’t make it past the locks, although several bolts were removed, so I still have the racks.

Sorry, comment time is over.
