Love ’em or hate ’em, Blue Angels are gone for another year

The Blue Angels took off from Boeing Field minutes ago – gone till next Seafair. The takeoff was same format as the airshows – the 4 from the “diamond” first, the 2 solos following and splitting west/east right over the runway, and it’s one of those you see in our iPhone photo. The two-seater #7 followed, with support C-130 “Fat Albert” a few minutes afterward. Thanks to WSB’er Lori for the tip – she went to the Museum of Flight to find out their departure plans firsthand. She checked their schedule and it appears they’re headed back to home base in Pensacola, Florida. ADDED 11:29 AM: One last photo from their Seafair shows – David Rosen of SlickPix Photography took this one, which shows why the I-90 bridge is always closed for the Lake Washington shows:

I heard they were going to Pensacola (their home) then onto Chicago

This is the end of a 3 week road swing for the team, so its back home for a couple days then on to Chicago on thursday. For all that have complained about then noise, the team will be back next year for shows over the lake on Aug 6th and 7th with practices on the 4th and 5th so start planning now so you wont be surprised. As an fwi, the Blue Angels team personally selects to fly in Seattle every year due to the great support from the community, the DoD decides almost every other location. Seattle is truly thier second home.

Good riddance! Why do we let these noisemakers foul up our traffic for 5 minutes, let alone our air?!

  • Scar August 9, 2010 (1:15 pm)

    Hate em.

  • Meghan August 9, 2010 (1:17 pm)

War planes built to drop bombs on people used for entertainment. Good riddance indeed.

  • Chris August 9, 2010 (1:22 pm)

    LOVE THEM!

Bye Blue-thanks for another great show!

  • BB August 9, 2010 (2:49 pm)

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! The noise the Blue Angels make…Seafair would be lousy without them. Now back to ‘pocket mulching’ like a good Seattleite.

  • Vanessa August 9, 2010 (3:31 pm)

    See War Fair. Bye bye.

  • Lori August 9, 2010 (3:32 pm)

Fly safe guys! I am already counting the days until your arrival in 2011. I miss you already!!

  • Scar August 9, 2010 (4:01 pm)

Be glad you’re not watching these types of planes in a country that’s not the USA. In that case instead of cheering you’d be hoping to God you were not collateral damage by having a bomb dropped on you. Whatever happened to military restraint and not glorifying the war culture?

time to wake up america—50% of your tax dollars goes

I do not like fireworks and I do not like the Blue Angels — for the same reason: Megan and Scar said it better than I can — fake war for entertainment just doesn’t amuse me.

Maybe we could invent a carnival ride that lets kids drive fake or virtual airplanes through skyscrapers. I hesitated to add that sentence, because I’m pretty sure someone will tell me it’s been done :-(

Love them! I look forward to it every year! I just wish it would have been nicer weather so they could have done their high show.

  • quiz August 9, 2010 (9:04 pm)

They’re amazing. Without a doubt. Pretty sure they didn’t kill anyone while they were in town.

  • Carol August 9, 2010 (11:26 pm)

Yes! Yes! Love the Blue Angels/Navy and Fat Albert/Marines. Also love the sound from these awesome jets – they make my heart throb. Thank you, each and every military memeber from these two group, for your service. I am proud to stand in support! Looking forward to next year’s show!

Love them – best part of Seafair!

To those who look at the world as all wrong, Try when you look up to the sky at the Blues to gaze at the children with the awe and amazement on their faces and you can see the shows for what they are worth! Not a sign of war, but a sign that all things that you see as bad is hope for all others. With these pilots entertaing us are the heroes allowing you to keep your negative opinions free to be heard by those that smile when we get the chance at life!!!

    Hating Seafair? Lame.

  • Tim August 10, 2010 (10:31 pm)

I’ve lived in Seattle for all of my 46 years and I love them. The year (or two?) when they didn’t come was tragic. I don’t understand why any true Seattlite (or American) would not like them.

Sorry, comment time is over.
