West Seattle Crime Watch: North Admiral car break-in

Before you lock up for the night, a reminder in this report from Kris:

Hi there, I wanted to report that my parents’ car on 47th Street SW (by Sunset) [map] was broken into last night and it looks like others might have been hit overnight. They left other vehicle information outside the car. Fortunately not much of value was in the car but others should be on notice to ensure they keep their cars locked on the streets. It’s unfortunate as we had assumed we lived in a pretty safe neighborhood.

We checked the available-so-far online police reports and aren’t seeing other reports in that area so far – but the “other vehicle info” could have come from elsewhere (there’s a 5100 block of SW Hudson car prowl listed for early this morning), or might be from incident/s not reported to police (who stress that it’s important to report, even if nothing was taken).

I have seen two recent reports of car break-ins with the similar M.O. of having the ‘car paperwork’ rifled through. What might they be looking for?

That is sad. Always good to keep an eye out when taking a walk or hanging out in your yard.

This is the same M.O. as the person who broke into my car in the summer of 2007 or 2008. Right on Sunset, overnight. My car was locked, it didn’t matter. They broke in and stole some hip hop CD’s and that was it. We thus assumed they were kids. Papers from my glove box were strewn about outside the car on the grass parking strip. Same people I am sure…they come out in summer. Park your car in the garage and/or get up betweeen 2 and 4 am.

Actually my parents neighbors car (Honda) was just stolen last week parked in their driveway and they live on 45th just up from Sunset and Bonair……..I bet it’s the same people.

My car was broken in to at night (46th and Admiral) about 1 month ago, papers in glove box rifled thru and 15 $ coins taken. A hair pick and cigarette box were left behind on the seat. I do not bother to lock my car any more as neighbors have had windows smashed in similar break-ins. Last year my car was also vandalized ( same time of year, around the first nice summer Alki days) and it was locked with an alarm activated which perpetrators managed to overide.Nothing of value visible or present in the car.I did not report either to police. My alley neighbor had similar break in last week. Concerned that dogs are not barking and we are not hearing the noise in this quiet and alert neighborhod!

My car was prowled early AM, 7/29. Particularly bold, because it’s a quiet dead end street near Schmitz Park with no alternate access or escape, and car was in attached carport. Car was unlocked with nothing of value visible, but they got some hidden elctronics. They must not like my music, because nothing else was taken. Police report filed.

Sorry, comment time is over.
