West Seattle politics: Diana Toledo joins King County Council race

Now, there are three declared candidates campaigning for King County Council District 8, the seat currently held by Councilmember Jan Drago — appointed to fill the vacancy after Dow Constantinewas elected County Executive, but not running to keep the job. The latest is West Seattleite Diana Toledo – read on for her announcement:

The daughter of a Filipino immigrant who earned his U.S. Citizenship serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and an American mother (Alice Coker-Toledo) who operated a neighborhood food-bank to help struggling Seattleites in the 1970’s; Life-long Seattle resident and 15 year King County employee Diana Toledo has entered the race for King County Council.

Diana’s platform is focused on 3 issues; 1) Fiscal responsibility in King County Government. 2) Local Business incentives and Job creation. 3) Safe streets via youth outreach.

Diana and her husband Jerry (a small business owner), and their children live in West Seattle where they are active in community programs, church, and public service.

The other declared candidates are State Sen. Joe McDermott and Normandy Park City Councilmember Shawn McEvoy. The official in-person/online filing period is next week – so we’ll know the final lineup within a week and a half.

Nice! Another Independent running in Washington state, from our district no less! Current two-party politics are not doing us any favors, and obviously people are starting to notice… and most importantly, they are getting involved to do something about it.

While some Democrats have not been living up to the ideals they espouse, Senator MDermott is one of the finest. Nevertheless, kudos to Mrs. Toledo for her commitment to service.

I am interested in her as she talks about living within the county’s means unlike our state reps who continually vote for unsustainable budgets

Please tell us how Ms. Toledo was involved with Yellow Cab’s contract for exclusive rights to pick up passengers at Sea-Tac Airport.

I welcome her name on the ballot. Had a nice chat with her last night at Lafayette. But I agree with Tim, Joe’s been an excellent representative in Olympia.

No, OutOfWorkHack, why don’t YOU tell us since you’re wildly off thread here.

Thank you for your comments. I was not involved in the Port of Seattle’s decision regarding the exclusive contract at Sea-Tac International Airport. Please visit my website to contact me at http://www.votetoledo.com with any other questions or concerns. I would love to hear from you. Thank you. -Diana
