West Seattle Crime Watch: Arrests in robbery, burglary today

We received a few notes earlier about police activity near the 35th/Morgan market (map) and a few blocks north near the High Point library branch. Southwest Precinct Lt. Ron Rasmussen tells WSB that both scenes “were related to a robbery at the (market). Three juveniles were arrested by our officers in the area of the library. No suspects outstanding.” He also says that in another incident this afternoon, police arrested a juvenile burglary suspect “who entered a woman’s house in the 9200 Block of 26th SW [map] while she was at home.” (Another reminder that if you’ve got questions/concerns about crime, precinct leadership will be at tomorrow night’s monthly meeting of the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council as usual, 7 pm; also scheduled to be there, City Attorney Pete Holmes.)

Wonder if they live in the High Point neighborhood?

No idea and will probably never know; it’s not likely to be on the released version of the report when that’s made public in a few days. But if you are truly interested, that’s certainly a question you could bring up at tomorrow night’s meeting – TR

Oh boy, leftist Pete Holmes, to discuss his sanctuary city policy. What a joke.

Guess turnin’ the gas pumps back on did not bring respectability….

Dangerous Eyesore that “Market” *cough* (malt) liquor store*

(re: HolyKow) …and that is sad … no one wants to go there more then once (except those “in need” of cheap beer) … it is not a respectable/safe place to go … too bad … we need a respectable store

Could not agree more. Again, the WSB had a great story about an, ahem, establishment of this ilk…, that operated in Delridge. They got it together and pulled down all the ‘Get ur foty here!’ signs and made the place more respectable. It really would contribute to the improvement of that area a great deal….

Ghetto Liquor Store (GLS going forward) is not good for High Point, Gatewood or Humanity. In fact, they seem to be causing more trouble than they are worth….literally.

this sounds sad, but i’ve often wondered what would happen if that “market” went away — in particular, i wonderered if the thriftway down the road would quickly get overrun by shady characters looking for cheap beer and hanging-out in the front of the store in big crowds if the gas station got closed. it would be the closest alternative to that gas station for people to go get booze. so i have a sort of resigned myself to the role of that “market” in keeping the riff-raff further away from the store i like. tacky, i know, but my truth.

I moved to Morgan Junction for easy access to the ferries and because it appeared to be a good area. But as of lately, the screaming at 3am by the bums and the scary characters and news from high point are making me seriously consider moving to another area.

  • My House June 18, 2010 (2:56 pm)

About the “living in High Point” comment above, my house was the one on May 17th that was broken into and the perps caught. Turns out one is a juvi and the other an adult (barely). Both are High Point residents. The juvi’s residency status is unknown at this time. The prosecutors office is getting back to me re: what can be done if he is here illegally. (I know, nothing, but it was fun asking… stumped her there :) Maybe I can propose a collection to ship his tail back where he came from? Anyone willing to donate?) We’ll see what happens to them, but I’m guessing not a lot. It is nice to know that I have to provide professional estimates for the damage caused and receipts for goods damaged in order to apply for restitution. Do the courts have any idea of how much time this would consume? Plus, who the hell saves receipts for plants and other minor things purchased over time? I could go purchase new things and submit the receipts, but I’m not sure I want to replace some of the items. Glad to see that the system works keep the pressure on the victim! I basically had a choice: Stay home from my job to work on securing my house, obtaining estimates, and re-purchasing items or basically take a wild shot and submit what I know the vaules to be in order to meet their submittal deadline. I wonder if instead of restitution, I could ask the judge for 15 minutes in a holding cell with them?

Sorry to hear about your break in. We’ve been installing alarm systems in the high point area lately. Let me know if you need help in securing your home. It doesn’t cost much to have a piece of mind and feel secure with an alarm system. We are also a WSB sponsor. ksawka@freedomsystemsinc.com | 206.229.8075

For 5 years I have lived on 35th, right by High Point .. I had high hopes that it would be what it was touted to be, but alas it’s the projects all over again .. I don’t even like to drive through there …Thankfully I have moved over close to the Junction and I feel so much safer .. The Morgan Junction is a very shady area .. It’s sad … The buying and selling of drugs beside the condo building where I lived is scary .. I’m so glad to be out of that area ..

Sorry, comment time is over.
