SATURDAY MORNING-AFTERNOON: *Spring Into Bed* is a grass-roots effort creating food access, equity, and resilience in our rapidly evolving local food system. On this Saturday, May 8th, people across Seattle and Puget Sound will be building food-gardens and you are invited. *In addition* *to* tallying the acreage individual gardeners build in their own (or neighbor’s) garden, and connecting hundreds of volunteers to pre-existing urban agricultural sites seeking extra hands to lighten the load, *Spring into Bed* will be building food justice gardens to remove the financial and logistical barriers to creating a garden of their own. The new gardeners and gardens are at diverse sites across Seattle, ranging from your neighbor’s backyard to the your local food bank to your neighborhood church. The captains fund-raising to support the effort are diverse too, ranging from a real estate agent to a photographer to a film producer to a local fair trade chocolatier to an edible landscape company. Garden- building will take place from 10am-3pm. Drop in and help if you want to get your hands dirty. Meet us at South Seattle Community College from 4pm-8pm for a celebration where there will be music, activities and lots of delicious food!
