West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day: Both map versions ready
May 4, 2010 at 9:37 am | In Community Garage Sale Day, West Seattle news | 11 Comments**10:53 PM UPDATE – Sale #105 canceled – we’ve taken it off this map; if you’ve printed, please X it out**

Just four days till the 6th annual – and biggest ever – West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day: 200 sales (with hundreds more sellers, thanks to group sale sites, organization/school/business/block sales, etc.)! On Saturday, the Google Map with all the sale sites, numbered 1-200, starting with #1 in the north to #200 in the south, went live (it’s embedded above – here’s the direct link). Just one problem with Google Maps – for something like this, they tend not to print that well. So again this year, we have put together a more packet-like printable map. It’s a 12-page Word doc (6 pages if you print both sides) – with the map cut into sections, with the numbered sales, followed by the list of all 200 “ads” for the sales, in numerical order. (ADDED 1:17 PM: If you’d rather print from a PDF, use this link. Thanks to Karen for helping!) Take note that sellers will be seeing this version for the first time today too, and if anyone sees a major problem (so far so good with the Google version), we will update the map and repost here as well as at westseattlegaragesale.com and at the West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day page on Facebook.

Hotwire is one of the locations you can pick up a map. They will be ready by 1:30pm today.

Is it only my computer that claims the Word file is corrupt and refuses to run it?

Katherine – I haven’t received any other reports of problems yet but the day’s young… are you on a PC or Mac?

I am on a PC, Word/Office 2007, opened without a problem

I’m on a Mac, but with Mac Word. It should work. I got the icon on the screen, but the pages are blank.

BTW, my initial download using Mozilla said it failed, but then I right-clicked on the file and selected “open” and it launched Word and I can see all the pages. I have a Mac with Mac Word 2008.

Opened on a Mac using NeoOffice just fine.
When opened in TextEdit there was no map (of course) But the sale were listed one at a time which made it very easy to edit out the sale I couldn’t get to or didn’t want to goto:)
Great list/map, tk you guys.

Patt, thanks for the tips on customizing. Reminder to anyone checking this thread, Sale #105 has had to cancel at the last minute – too late to get them off the “printable” map though I have deleted them on the Google version – TR

Every red penny our kids make at our garage sale on 9361 47th Avenue SW will go to Amigos de las Americas. This garage sale is supporting some thirty kids (several in West Seattle) who are traveling to Central and South America this summer. Please come shop our sale AND we’ll have snacks and baked goods too.
