West Seattle Crime Watch: Arrest followup, and two new reports

First, a followup on an arrest we reported last week: The 33-year-old man arrested at his High Point apartment one week ago and held for investigation of auto theft, robbery, assault and kidnapping is no longer in jail – he was released Monday night. That day was the deadline for him to be either charged or released, but the case was not referred to prosecutors. Police told WSB today that the investigation is still “active,” but that it’s too soon to say whether they will determine there is enough evidence to send the case to prosecutors for possible charges. Next – two new Crime Watch reports just in, a burglary and a sighting of two suspected car prowlers – read on:

First, the burglary, from Em:

Just got home to a burglarized house. They kicked the back door in sometime today. while we were at work between 8:00 am-8:00 PM. We live in Highland Park near the playfield on 12th [map]. The police are on their way. This also happened to us exactly 2 years ago. They took a lot of electronics & games, and who knows what else.

Second, the sighting of suspected car prowlers, from Andrew:

This AM- 2 males were spotted on SW 101st St in Arbor Heights at 7 AM looking for unlocked cars on the street. 1 Asian and 1 African American male were seen in a black Escalade. Police were called- no word on what happened.

One more note – a reminder that the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council has changed the night it will be meeting next week – Monday 4/19, 7 pm, Southwest Precinct, instead of the usual third Tuesday.

Also had a car break in at our apartment complex this morning at about 4:30AM in the North Admiral area. Thankfully we have cameras posted around our building so we caught them on video. But they initially prowled the parking lot then came back a few mins later and broke into an SUV for the tools that were in the back of it. Obviously we made a report with the police but everyone needs to keep an eye out.

Sorry to hear about the break-ins. Our burglar alarm went off yesterday at 11:45 am, also in Highland Park. I work less than 5 min away, so I ran home to check when I got the alert from ADT. There was no indication of what had triggered the alarm, but someone may have been at a back window, because the motion sensor was triggered. I drove around the neighborhood a bit, and didn’t see anyone who looked out of place. I know that’s not a ton of help, but please know that your neighbors care and are trying to keep an eye out.
    .
Also, I’d highly recommend a consultation with Freedom Systems, Inc. They’re a WSB sponsor, and they installed our alarm. (Contact info on the Crime page here on WSB) They have some really good deals, and don’t require a land line if you don’t have one. The $30/month is well worth my peace of mind.

Thank you A-I think its time, to take your suggestion. Our backdoor is off of the street, so and not hidden, so thought it would be safe, but perhaps nothing scares thugs anymore.

My car window got busted out last night, threw everything around the car. Left the GPS and everything else valuable and stole the coins in the ashtray?? We’re right off 61st and Beach drive and never had any problems. Another guy stopped this morning when I was cleaning up and said the same thing happened to him last night. They busted his window left all his tools in the back and stole a empty camera case???

Joseph: If they were smart they wouldn’t be breaking into cars.

I saw what I think was a car prowl this morning around 9 am on Orchard Street. A blue gray car with a loud engine was driving slowly down the street and it paused at my neighbor’s Prius but kept going to the next car. The passenger got out, peered inside the parked Jeep, glanced up the street and then hopped back inside the blue gray car and the car took off. A few moments later some young school kids passed by walking down the street. The prowler was young, few extra pounds and a bright red baseball cap. I did not see the car closely because of the trees, nor could I get a license number because of the angle/distance. The driver’s door had some kind of paint repair job in a slightly different color.

interesting that the guys prowling 101st were in an Escalade, you wouldn’t think that a pricy car like that would need such sticky fingers.

    Mags,

I reported to police via 911 what appeared to be very suspicious behavior in a vehicle near the ravine last Sunday. Reported rear license plate number and the activity. Car was parked and individuals would walk more than a block away and then disappear between houses. No response from SPD. Car was back tonight, noted that front and rear license plates did not match. Notified SPD. Car was stolen…. subsequently towed.
Keep your eyes out and report all suspicious behavior!!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
