Update: Photos of West Seattle Junction KeyBank robber
April 6, 2010 at 9:53 am | In Crime, West Seattle news | 59 Comments
That’s one of the photos the FBI has just released of the woman who robbed the Junction KeyBank yesterday afternoon (here’s our original report). They’ve sent the “WANTED” flyer too – it contains two of the other (small) photos they’ve sent; here’s another one from the FBI e-mail to media:

And one that’s on the “poster”:

We’re asking to see if they have larger versions – we’ve blown these up a bit but that doesn’t help much. Meantime, the FBI adds:
This individual should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about this individual is asked to contact the FBI by telephone at (206) 622-0460, or e-mail at seattle.fbi@ic.fbi.gov

Boy, with as many times as that place gets robbed it’s a wonder that people just milling around the junction haven’t been hurt – lucky!
Comment by Junction Wkr — 9:59 am April 6, 2010 #
Wow when did this happen?
Comment by LMA — 10:05 am April 6, 2010 #
Looks like a fake nose in the FBI poster pictures. Maybe a wig too.
Comment by A — 10:09 am April 6, 2010 #
Wig. Fake nose. Big hat. Gloves. Might not even be a woman. Pretty good disguise I’d say. Clothing is too distinctive and easily identifiable for it to be taken seriously. It’s a costume, designed to misdirect.
Comment by PaulG — 10:31 am April 6, 2010 #
Are you kidding me? Again? Nobody has got better camera technology than this? It’s like the banks just don’t really care. Seriously, they just hand it over and nobody gets caught. It’s flat out stupid and is sending the wrong message, actually inviting more heists. How about getting real. How about protecting the employees with a bullet proof barrier? How about security guards? How about better cameras? How about consequences? Now it’s moms just walking in, what’s next 5 year olds?
Comment by tired — 10:36 am April 6, 2010 #
She’ll get caught…someone’s bound to recognize her and turn her in. That close up…makes me think “she” could be a “he”!
Comment by onceachef — 10:40 am April 6, 2010 #
Sad thing about all these bank robberies…is West Seattle is turning into a bigger city and will probably start putting up those awful safety glass walls at the teller stations. It really loses the community feel…hopefully they catch this “lady”. (Agree with onceacef that “she” kinda looks looks more manly)
Comment by Missing the old W.Sea — 10:52 am April 6, 2010 #
Feds should be working on more serious crimes. This is a weak security policy that is now costing us the taxpayers money we don’t have to have Fed intervention. The bank should fund it’s own investigation as they didn’t take the proper precautions to protect their personnel, money and reputation. It never needed to happen.
Comment by tired — 11:01 am April 6, 2010 #
Chase Bank in the Admiral district already put up the safety glass walls.
Comment by bebecat — 11:05 am April 6, 2010 #
That last picture makes me want to slap the dogcrap outta her/him.
Comment by SomeGuy — 11:08 am April 6, 2010 #
I agree with the other Missing – West Seattle is not the community based neighborhood it used to be – with more development and higher population we’re seeing higher incidents of things happening – I just about had a coronary when I came walking down California Ave several months ago and found that the block had been cordoned off because someone had robbed the rite aid and then barricaded themselves in an apartment.. this is not the place I grew up in :( but i have to say, it does look like a woman – top pic of hip/butt/thighs points to that.. u
Comment by Missing where I grew up — 11:11 am April 6, 2010 #
Didn’t KING 5 do a story on bank robberies and when the teller hits the “panic” button the call routes to Ohio and then Ohio transfers the call to the 10 digit police department non emergency line, which results in a loss of 5-8 minutes of responding time. I thought that they singled out Key Bank as one of the companies subscribing to this service. If so, that makes it easier for the robber. Plus, look at the location of this bank, easy in, easy out.
Comment by coffee — 11:23 am April 6, 2010 #
30% chance she get’s caught at best. As “tired” said, it didn’t need to happen.
Comment by Captain Blue Sky — 11:35 am April 6, 2010 #
What is to say it isn’t a small built man posing as a woman? I agree the nose looks fake and the hair looks like a wig.
Comment by luckymom30 — 11:47 am April 6, 2010 #
If we had a better picture we might have a few answered questions, ah, like who did it. My 10 year old 1st generation Canon would have captured a clearer image, and they are using a cheap web-cam to capture the case breaking mission critical data as it’s happening. You only get one shot, the robber is most likely not from W Seattle and in full disguise…the devil’s in the details. The ball got dropped.
Comment by Captain Blue Sky — 12:02 pm April 6, 2010 #
Ahh she probably went to the poggie after
Comment by Dawn Dahlquist Eldridge — 12:04 pm April 6, 2010 #
Pogie After hahaahahah. That’s probably not a bad lead for real.
Comment by ed — 12:07 pm April 6, 2010 #
She/He/It looks like a start to a great witch costume for Halloween! West Seattle gets way too many bank robberies! Its scary! I hope someone sees this idiot and turns her/him in to police!
Comment by Noelle — 12:28 pm April 6, 2010 #
DDE and ed – my BF said the exact same thing yesterday. haha.
Comment by HelperMonkey — 12:34 pm April 6, 2010 #
Wow, so many security experts on this thread.
Comment by hoffanimal — 1:03 pm April 6, 2010 #
Stop telling everyone how long you have lived here and how much you “miss how it used to be” That’s annoying.
Comment by Westwoodie — 1:11 pm April 6, 2010 #
DDE- good one :)
Comment by Westside J. — 1:14 pm April 6, 2010 #
Ive lived here for almost 30 years, familys been here since the 30′s, my dad was born in the hospital that used to be on the corner of Cali& Alaska that you probably don’t know about woody..
I miss how it used to be.
Comment by Westside J. — 1:18 pm April 6, 2010 #
Westside J – I have to agree with Westwoodie. I as well have lived in West Seattle for almost the last 40 years and my family has as well been here since the 40′s.
It’s not just our neighborhood that has changed – the world has changed. Our neighborhood is still a great place to be and I wouldn’t be anywhere else. I get awfully tired of hearing what a bad place west seattle is, how ghetto it is, etc… it’s a beautiful place and I feel comfortable walking through any neighborhood, alone at night, by myself in West Seattle.
If you are so unhappy, please leave the area as you no longer should be in a place that you are unhappy with. This is a great community with great people.
Again, the world has changed – change with it or help it change to better suit you, but don’t complain about your neighbors….
Comment by S... — 1:28 pm April 6, 2010 #
He/She’s one tough looking “individual in their 20′s – 30′s”; looks a lot older than that to me – maybe it’s just a bad hair (and nose) day.
Comment by jwws — 1:30 pm April 6, 2010 #
In response to COFFEE’s post………It just FLOORS me when the media realeases information like that. We (as the world) don’t need to know that for our own protection! And the people that want to know it use it against us. There’s all sorts of crap like that they blab about in the news. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!
Comment by bsmomma — 2:04 pm April 6, 2010 #
S… Don’t get me wrong, I love my WestSeattle.. The only thing Im complaining about is the People who move here and claim it as they’re own with zero regards to the history of WS.. It’s always been a small town mom & pop kinda place, but that is being pushed away in favor of town homes and condos.. Eventually well all be living in “west belltown” or something, and frankly I think that kinda sucks. If you really get it I shouldn’t have to explain it.
I can say I miss the way it was, that doesn’t mean I hate it now. We’re allowed to be nostalgic.
For the record, my band tours about 75% of the world, and I still live on the westside. I tell everyone Im from WESTseattle, so Im no Benadict Arnold.
Comment by Westside J. — 2:10 pm April 6, 2010 #
Tired…what? Fund their own investigation? Is this the Wild West and the Pinkertons are for hire? And since when is bank robbery with an (alleged) weapon not “serious”? You’ve been hiding in your bunker too long.
Comment by onceachef — 2:11 pm April 6, 2010 #
So, Westside J? People aren’t allowed to move here unless they are born here? People aren’t allowed to call it home unless they know all the history and have lived it? That is crap.
.
This kind of stuff happens EVERYWHERE. It has nothing to do with it be in WS or not. And the crap about banks not being like they used to be when they put up glass, yes, they aren’t unsafe like they used to be.
Comment by J.See — 2:21 pm April 6, 2010 #
I’m going to giggle, LOUDLY, if this person is actually a female WITHOUT a fake nose, wig, etc! I hope they post her arrest picture when she is caught.
Comment by Garden_nymph — 2:43 pm April 6, 2010 #
bsmomma, I have spent over 12 years working on 9-1-1 networks, training dispatchers, working on writing international standards for 9-1-1 and other 9-1-1 related work, and this is standard practice in many companies, not just a bank. Its unfortunate because it greatly slows processes down.
Comment by coffee — 2:48 pm April 6, 2010 #
Amen Garden nymph! I’m already giggling just at the thought of it!
Comment by JJ — 3:02 pm April 6, 2010 #
maybe they stole the money for plastic surgery? “Dude looks like a lady!”
Comment by Just a thought... — 3:08 pm April 6, 2010 #
I think I saw that same outfit on the People of Walmart website.
Comment by West Seattle Art Attack — 3:11 pm April 6, 2010 #
What’s more annoying than the “I miss the way X used to be” posts are the painfully obvious and smug “If you don’t like X, move” posts. Please.
.
People know they have the option of not going to a specific bar or restaurant or of moving out of West Seattle. It adds little to any conversation to remind people of this.
.
People are entitled to their perception of how safe any area is, how good a restaurant is, whether or not a bar is scummy, etc. Not all areas of Seattle or West Seattle are equally safe, statistically or by opinion. And we’re entitled to miss stuff we feel is gone. Jeez.
Comment by Kayleigh — 3:18 pm April 6, 2010 #
Jsee.. I guess your missing my point, and Im sure Im not wording it very well either..
I love the westside, I intend to stay here. I can handle the changes, but I liked it better when it was smaller. But yeah, I do get tired of seeing 6 unit townhouses go up on a lot that used to have a family home and a yard. I guess that makes me a jerk. I also feel like my roots in the community make that ok. Double jerk.
Comment by Westside J. — 3:20 pm April 6, 2010 #
Westside, so if everyone moved into craftsman homes you’d be happy? Just checking.
Comment by hoffanimal — 3:29 pm April 6, 2010 #
…and no new people can move into WS until someone moves out…
Comment by KBear — 3:44 pm April 6, 2010 #
Gotta love the comment sections on the WSB. Only here can you take an mildly informative piece on a bank robbery and turn it into a dissertation on “If you don’t like it, leave.”
Chill, people.

Seriously people, it HAS been cold out. So what I hear being said is that this person should be charged for armed robbery AND get a fashion citation?! …still giggling…
Comment by Garden_nymph — 4:46 pm April 6, 2010 #
When I heard about the scarf details I thought the person must have purposefully worn that to throw off any leads. Now that I see the photos, I’m sure of it, who would wear something so noticeable?

OnceaChef. You missed the point and got all dramatic. Add a cup of reality and a pinch of get real. The bottom line is that this bank is behind the times and it cost them and WS another crime. You need to get factual and argue the real issue. People like you never get it and never get results. You have it all figured, so please
prey tell enlighten me with your fix to the problem.

yup, it’s a she-male needing the money for reassignment. such drastic measures though…
Comment by LyndaB — 10:22 pm April 6, 2010 #
Looks to me to be a leather or “pleather” coat, not a wool one as first reported. Where or where is Erik Estrada when we “REALLY” need him?! This person needs to benefit from a “blue light special” very soon!
Comment by Garden_nymph — 11:58 pm April 6, 2010 #
If you don’t like it, leave… isn’t really an answer to increased crime, density, etc. People who’ve lived here for years and have seen an increase of problems shouldn’t be blasted for voicing what they know to be true, based on long time experience in the West Seattle neighborhoods. Let’s find answers… let’s keep our community vibrant, healthy and a great place to live. Let’s work together and not marginalize anyone who voices an opinion or criticize a business because it gets robbed. Got answers, ideas or creative solutions? Let’s hear them.

Can anybody tell if the person in the photos has an adams apple? Only men have adams apples, so if no apple it is a she! Just saying.

There are about 4 smart well thought out responses on this blog. The others are emotional, stupid or not applicable. I’m worried about the general brain power of people as these responses are truly idiotic. West Seattle might be retarded.

Hate to say it, but doesn’t the last photo look just a little bit like Julia Roberts these days?

Dang! The FBI Poster is a real tell. Looks like a dude with a higher calling to fashion . . . that scarf to cover adams apple. Drag queen robber.

The he vs. she speculation has really run its course and has gone too close to violating our rules about respectful discussion of gender and orientation – so I’m closing the comment thread. If you have a tip, PLEASE call or e-mail the FBI at the phone number/e-mail address provided in the story and on the flyer linked therein. Thanks – TR
