West Seattle Crime Watch: Another stolen bike to watch for

From Catherine:

BIKE THEFT! REWARD!

My bike was stolen from my front porch last night in the area of 46th Ave SW and SW Maple Way [map]. Between 9 pm 2/25 and 8 am 2/26. I’d love to recover it (but don’t really expect to) but I am posting this on the blog as much to warn my neighbors as anything else.

That said, I’ve attached a picture and here is a description:

15″ Specialized Sworks mountain bike, gunmetal gray
Mavic 217 rims, sunset anodized color, silver Shimano Deore XT Parallax hubs
Specialized Strongarm cranks with RaceFace rings
Time ATAC mountain pedals-red
XTR front derailleur
SRAM 9.0SL wood grain rear derailleur
Specialized Fatboy Slick narrow tires

Please be on the lookout–thanks! If you have any information on the whereabouts, please contact bike8betty@gmail.com

There are no ‘safe’ places anymore.
    Realize that fact.
Thieves cover the area like snow,

Check Craig’s list too and see if it shows up there. Pawn shops? I would be devastated if I lost my bike to thieves, its like a trusty friend. Hope you find it…

Man that sucks. Nice bike too, lots of $$ parts along with a top end Specialized frame. I’ll keep an eye out for it and or the parts. Hope you get it back in the same condition.

We just found a Schwinn Mesa runner with a trek seat in some bushes in our yard. Is this one of the stolen bikes? Calling police. Hope to find it’s owner.

You don’t live very far from a problelm house at 802x Fauntleroy Way SW where a lot of stolen goods go in and out often. Many of the neighbors had a meeting Thursday night at the WS Precinct about the owner and residents. SPD officers know a lot about that place.

Actually BIKEWORKS (www.bikeworks.org) in Columbia City is a great place to get a completely overhauled used bike at a great price. It’s a non-profit. Craigslist is good if you have the knowledge to know if the bike is in good working order or if it needs a couple hundred $ work.

Sorry about your bike. Be sure to buy a Kryptonite type U-Lock. Cable locks can be easily cut by thieves.

Have you tried Metro’s Lost and Found? It quite common that folks may “borrow” a bike just to use for a bit, then they put the bike on the bike rack and hop on the bus. When they reach their destination they just get off the bus, leaving the bike, which is then turned in to Metro L&F by the driver. It’s worth a try. You’d be amazed how often this happens. Good luck.
