West Seattle High School’s varsity football team is on the road tonight to play Ferndale at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium. Meantime, Chief Sealth High School played last night at Memorial Stadium downtown, in a game with multiple weather delays (lightning understandably clears the field) – read on for our game report:

From WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand, who’s doubled as chief high-school-football correspondent this season:

Like most things Friday night, Chief Sealth’s game with Mercer Island was wholly dependent on the weather. Just minutes before kickoff, lightning flashes could be seen above Memorial Stadium, and a roll of thunder that lasted for almost 10 seconds could be heard. That led to the first of two weather delays to a game that saw Sealth come out on the losing end, 49-0.

Most of the damage was done by Mercer’s sophomore quarterback Jeff Lindquist, who was effective at keeping and running the ball. Despite the delays, Sealth did put together a couple of decent drives. Here’s a handoff from quarterback Daniel Davis to Greg Wilson.

From our story on Davis a few weeks ago (see it here), we know that Davis and Wilson have been friends since their freshman playing days. Last night marked their last game as seniors.

Prior to the game a moment of silence was observed for Joyce Hedlund, who died of a stroke earlier this week. She had been Mercer Island’s tennis coach for many years. She was 67; here’s a report from the Seattle Times (WSB partner).
