We’ve gotten alerts from both Metro and SDOT, so for everyone who drives along 4th into downtown, we’re sharing word of work that starts on Monday and its potential effects – read on:

First, from SDOT:

Starting next week, the week of September 28, a contractor working for the
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will begin work on the Fourth Avenue
resurfacing project which stretches from S Jackson Street (map) to Olive Way. During
Phase 1 of the project, traffic will be reduced to two travel lanes around-the-clock
on Fourth Avenue between Jackson and James streets for the next several months
(September to January), beginning next week.

In addition to lane closures, there will be temporary bus stop closures and transit
disruptions, along with weekend cross street closures. Some night time work is
expected, including saw cutting.

The entire project, which will extend into next summer, includes reconstructing most
of Fourth Avenue between S Jackson and Seneca streets and replacing selected
concrete panels on Fourth Avenue between Seneca Street and Olive Way.

Next, from Metro, regarding possible effects:

Bus riders who travel through downtown Seattle and the SODO district should expect disruptions and delays starting Monday, Sept. 28, as the city begins a major resurfacing project on Fourth Avenue north of Jackson Street.

During Phase 1 of the project, traffic will be reduced to two travel lanes around-the-clock on Fourth Avenue between Jackson and James streets for the next several months (September to January). That will result in temporary bus stop closures and transit delays.

The first three bus stops that will be closed are located at: eastbound Washington Street at 4th Avenue; northbound 4th Avenue at James; and northbound 4th Avenue at Washington.

King County Metro Transit is asking its customers to use alternate stops, and plan on delays if their routes travel on 4th Avenue. For information about the disruptions, visit Metro Online at www.kingcounty.gov/metro and click on “reroutes and service exceptions” under the Alerts tab. Or, call Metro Rider Information at (206) 553-3000.
