Jan Drago’s mayoral campaign: Already launched online

City Councilmember Jan Drago is planning to officially announce her run for mayor outside the Seattle Art Museum this afternoon. But it’s already “official” online. First, independent journalist Johnathon Fitzpatrick discovered over the weekend that the Twitter account @jandrago4mayor was set up. Then, the mostly-politics website PubliCola found Drago announcing her impending announcement on Facebook. And this morning on Twitter, Lee Therriault (@leetherriault) has just pointed out that Councilmember Drago’s mayor-campaign website is fully operational now too (see it here), fronted by what may be the speech she gives this afternoon (in which, among other things, she says she’s running to be the Mayor of West Seattle, and other neighborhoods).

Have to say after her comments about getting around just fine in her 4-wheel drive during Snowgate ’08 and her telling Tom Rasmussen he was not being nice in his quewstioning the head of SDOT afterwards, she isn’t for me.

Too bad they’re currently painting the hammering man, so there’s a big chain-link fence and motorized scaffolding around him. Maybe they’ll be finished by the time she does her announcement.

Drago is basically a clone of Nickels, except with a very poor attendance record. I’d say she has about a 0% chance of winning.

only whiny Seattlites think the snow “emergency” is a career ending issue

Let’s spend millions of dollars over the next 10 years preparing for the next snowstorm of the decade! Because I insist you plow my front street NOW!!!!!

Jan Drago is the first candidate that has a chance against the Nickels political machine. A practical, straight talking leader would be a good thing for this city. I hope she makes it, we need a change.

She’s a gutsy woman and I wish her the best. Democracy works best when candidates step up.

She came 25 minutes late to her own Transportation Roundtable at West Seattle High School a couple years back, and then at one point suggested that the Water Taxi is a viable alternative to the Viaduct. Someone in the audience shouted “are you high?”

Not enough common sense, not enough change for my taste.

The bio on her website says she owned a Tastee Freeze while in high school. For reals?!

So interesting to me to watch Drago’s PR approach, which is different than anything I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the recognition of my sleuthing, Tracy. Just wanted to point out I am actually Lee Therriault – and it’s @leetherriault. Happens all the time though…so no worries.

She is an excellent replacement for Nickels. Let’s go Jan Drago!

Sorry, comment time is over.
