Washington State Ferries fares go up Friday

Catching a ferry from Fauntleroy (or someplace else)? Prepare to pay more starting tomorrow (Friday 5/1), the start of “peak season” for Washington State Ferries. One example: Full fare for car/driver from Fauntleroy to Vashon is $14.80 tonight, but it goes up to $18.50 tomorrow. Check fares here. (And if you’re going further than Vashon, take note – Friday also is when the Hood Canal Bridge starts a six-week shutdown.)

  1. I have always opposed the fare system used by WSF. The people who live where they have to use the system pay a lower fare. The people who support it all year with taxes pay a “summer surcharge” when they use the system for vacation travel. Seems like everyone paying the same fare makes sense, same for the Narrows Bridge.
The new fee represents a 25% increase! Just another way for Christine G. to balance the budget without raising “taxes”. Clever….

  2. The .pdf version of the fare schedule, accessed via the provided link, has an effective date of May 1, 2007. Those prices aren’t too bad.
