A different way to “chill out”: 2009 Polar Bear Swim at Alki

(video no longer available due to blip.tv shutdown)

Really, this needs no explaining. Just listen to the whoops and hollers as West Seattle Polar Bear Swim participants emerged back onto the sands of Alki from the chilly shallows of Puget Sound at midmorning today. (It’s a tradition; here’s our report from last year.)

I did my on private swim at Golden Gardens, with my golden retriever. We fetched the ball two or three times (we race for it), and then I did a little swim of 100 – 200 yards (thats a guess), up and down the beach. I’m disappointed with the city organized swim at Matthews beach, which I’ve done in years past. They rope too many people in to too small an area, in my opinion. Besides, I love salt water.
I’d love to see an organized swim like the one in Vancouver, which has been going on since about 1928. They have the mad screaming rush for those who only want to get in and out, but there’s also a 300m race. Anyone up for that in 2010? Alki or GG?

Sorry, comment time is over.
