Weather and traffic watch: South Delridge closure; more

6:23 PM: Sage K reports that Delridge is closed northbound between Trenton and Cloverdale (map) with police diverting traffic. Nothing on 911 for this either – we’ll check to see what’s up.

6:39 PM: Though we don’t know if that incident is weather-related, we’re going to use this post for weather/traffic notes throughout this stormy night, and invite you to do the same. First one isn’t West Seattle but might affect you: Amtrak service between Portland and Seattle is suspended. I-5 also has closed for a 20-mile stretch in Lewis County.

Might be the natuarl gas lines they’ve been putting in?

  • onceachef January 7, 2009 (6:50 pm)

    “natural” that is!

I drove through there tonight about 6pm on the way home. There was a fire engine and police car in front of a house with lights flashing. There was another police car at the intersection of Delridge and Trenton with the traffic blocked northbound. I couldn’t tell what was going on though.

Thanks – a WSB’er who lives nearby visually confirmed it’s open again – I do see there was a 5:30 pm-ish “medic response” call in the 8600 block of Delridge, so whatever happened must have been linked to that. Busy night out there.

I’ve been wondering why the streetlights have been out on those two blocks for about two weeks now… is the outage related to a new natural gas line?

It could have something to do with the “fake” light rail / car crash that the city will be staging tomorrow: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008601021_webcrashdrill07m.html

Voodoo, have you reported the street lights to City Light?

Just checking. I have a different streetlight-related question out to them and I can tack this on to the inquiry, but want to make sure it’s been reported first …

No, I didn’t report them. They’ve been out so long I assumed someone else had!

National weather service just issued flood warnings for Western Washington including Seattle Urban areas.

Longfellow Creek is running pretty high. I live about a half block away and have been checking it hourly. It’s not an emergency yet but will be if it keeps raining like this.

I hope someone else is aware of that besides me.

I just came from SEA and could not return to WS on West Marginal — the police have blocked it due to the depth of water in the roadway — i guess it to be at least a foot, just north of Highland Park/Holden? Geez its wet out there, and the water is just sheeting off of higher elevations.

Launching a new post in a moment because I suspect things’ll get worse overnight – thanks for the updates, we have just been in transition out of the 4-hour school board meeting. This closure process has just been a bad-weather magnet. Patrick just went down and looked at the Allstar vicinity, which flooded in the December 2007 vicinity, and said it looked OK, but of course the rain just keeps falling ..

I was going to call on those street lights too. Has it been called in?

  • Voodoo January 8, 2009 (1:46 pm)

I haven’t done it. I went to the website, and it asks for the number on the pole, and lots of other detailed info I don’t have.

Sorry, comment time is over.
