Putting up a few separate items before we top the home page with the “afternoon updates” post – this deserved a post of its own. “Admiral Skier,” who clearly is familiar with our intensive coverage of West Seattle development issues and projects in less-snowy times (all archived here, newest to oldest), e-mailed:
I was out on a ski around Alki today and came across a new waterfront condo. I don’t think this one went through the design review process, but maybe you saw the permit come up?

HA HA! I don’t think that fits under the current city height requirements. Also needs more snowmobile parking spaces.

Does anyone know how the Highland Park Wy hill is holding up? Has it been sanded? Thanks!

I also saw a lovely larger snow condo complete with inflatable palm tree not far from this one. Sadly, no pictures to share, but keep a lookout for it (safely) if you are on the north end of Alki near Luna Park.

Karen: my husband made it up Highland Park Way about an hour ago with little difficulty. I haven’t gone to look at it myself, but 9th Ave is showing some bare spots where snow has melted off. I don’t know if Highland Park Way has actually been plowed/sanded, though.

Our Volvo has AWD, so far we haven’t needed to use the chains, for what that’s worth.

HA! That’s great. Mike, you’re not kidding, either. “Low income” indeed.

The “other” igloo is/was? in the 1700 block on alki .. water side … pretty clever… folks packed the snow into a cooler making snow blocks to build with … I didn’t have a camera when by there either … dang… loved the palm tree touch!!!

That “condo” looks a heckuvalot better than many of the condos that have popped up on Alki in the last couple of decades!
