Last chance to make your mark at Alki Statue of Liberty Plaza

Another gorgeous Alki shot by David Hutchinson – who also happens to be with the Seattle (Alki) Statue of Liberty Plaza Committee, which has a year-end reminder for you: Just a couple more days to buy inscribed bricks/plaques to be added to the new plaza next year, with proceeds going to a maintenance fund. There’s also been a decision about how to handle the mineral-deposit problem on some of the already-installed bricks, as you can read in an update from the committee – click ahead:

Just want to remind everyone that there are only 2 days left to get in your orders for inscribed bricks to be placed in the new Alki Statue of Liberty Plaza! Orders must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2008. The PayPal link at the Urban Sparks website will be disabled at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Bricks and Tribute Plaques are still available (to see where they will be installed, go to www.sealady.org/map.html ). You can download your brick order form at www.sealady.org/brickpdfform.pdf Check our brick FAQ at www.sealady.org/faq.html for more complete information. A Plaque order form is available at www.sealady.org/plaquepdfform.pdf

To date, we have received orders for over 450 new bricks raising over $42,000. In addition, 6 of the 15 Tribute Plaques have been sold at $2000 each bringing the total to over $50,000 (minus expenses) for the new Plaza Maintenance Fund. The Plaques will continue to be sold into the New Year but if you want to assure a tax deductible status for your donation, it must be purchased no later than the December 31st deadline. If you are interested in purchasing one of the remaining Plaques, please contact Libby Carr at 206-938-8721 or libby@carrbiz.com

Seattle Parks and Recreation has scheduled the installation of all new Bricks, Plaques, the Time Capsule, and replacement bricks for the spring of 2009, and we will notify all donors when a firm date has been set. It has been decided to simply replace the bricks where the lettering is partially obscured due to an excessive amount of mineral deposits.

Our SSLPP Newsletter will continue to be periodically published with updates on new developments and maintenance issues with the Plaza. All donors will automatically receive this Newsletter by email. If you are not a donor but would like to make a comment or receive the Newsletter, you can email us at sslpp@msn.com or paul@carrbiz.com
