Think global, eat local: Help plan a West Seattle first

Want to help organize an “Eat Local Now!” dinner to raise awareness and $? Tonight, you are invited to join the first organizing meeting for what will be the first such dinner in West Seattle. Read on:

Here’s the invite from Sustainable West Seattle president Bill Reiswig:

Eat Local Now! Organizing Meeting: Wednesday, Oct 8, High Point Library (3411 S.W. Raymond St. Seattle, WA 98126 — Bus Route 21) — 6:15 till 7:45 pm

*About the meeting:
*I’m writing to invite any interested people to a first planning meeting for an *”Eat Local Now” Dinner in West Seattle* -…. This event would be a fund-raiser intended to raise awareness of the importance of local foods and a fun evening of socializing and eating locally grown food. BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economys ) has held several of these dinners in the last couple years – here is an description of one of them: eatlocalnow.org

We are looking to do this first event in West Seattle.

Derek Hoshiko of BALLE will be at this meeting to share past successes of such a meal, to brainstorm together about what characteristics we would want from such an event in West Seattle (from whom would we source the food, where would we hold the dinner, whom might speak, what local chefs could prepare it, how many folks would we aim to serve), and to see if we can
agree to do the event. Right now we are looking at late January for the event.

Please RSVP by responding to pres@sustainablewestseattle.org if you can join us, or e-mail and let us know if you cannot make it but are still interested.

    THANK YOU, BILL AND SWS!!
    ON A RELATED ECOLOGICAL NOTE:
Our local middle school (Denny MS) is selling these reusable strong nylon grocery bags that scrunch up into their own little pouch for $5 each ($2.50 to company, $2.50 donated to our school which really needs the $ for books, chairs, you-name-it!) They are so handy and cool (in red, black, green, or blue) that I thought I’d post this on craigslist for more people to take advantage of. To order, please contact me (by email at keypn7@gmail.com). To help the school, I will PERSONALLY DELIVER your bag and WON’T COLLECT ANY MONEY UNTIL YOU HAVE IT IN YOUR HAND!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

These bags effortlessly fit in your pocket or purse when they are stuffed into their integrated stuff pouch. The pouch has an attached carabineer to easily hook your bag to your key chain, backpack or belt loop. The design encourages you to always have your bag on hand or pocket or purse…

Material: Made of strong durable woven nylon. The fabric allows for easy opening and stuffing – no special folding required.

Capacity: 25 lbs. (One gallon of milk is approximately 7 lbs.)

Washing: Machine wash cold and hang dry.

Hi – if someone would like to send me your news release and pix (lifting them off Craigslist is not an option), I’d be happy to write a separate blurb about it — TR

Sorry – previous craigslist URL was incorrect. Here is the correct URL, where you can see the photos of the grocery bags:
