West Seattle Crime Watch: Friday night miscellany

A few miscellaneous notes to share, including one from the scanner moments ago:

Police just put out an alert about a red sedan, maybe a Volvo, seen leaving the scene of a “hit-and-run, against a parked car” at 44th and Brandon. (11:50 pm Friday)

Meantime, an anonymous note came in today with this:

If anyone between the 1400 and 1700 block of Alki Ave had anything stolen from their car or garage last (Thursday) night, please report it to the police as I witnessed 2 men acting very suspiciously along that stretch of Alki and reported a description of the men and their car to the police.

Last but not least for now, a followup to Christopher‘s report of a suspicious person Thursday morning. Brittney says:

We have seen this man (referencing description below) about 4 times trying to steal copper scraps from around in the houses in the alley behind the 7-11 off Erskine (4900 block). The most recent time was at 4 a.m. about a month ago. He needs to get caught!!!

As a follow-up to the metal thief: The SPD called me back about 30 minutes after I gave them a description of the guy to say that they still didn’t have an officer who was available to come by. But by that time I had already jumped into the car and had driven the streets, roughly between California and 35th and Hanford and Oregon but could not see the guy anywhere. The SPD told me they would increase patrols on weekdays between 11-1 (the time I called in the report) so that officers would give our area increased attention on their patrols.

One more important thing to note: I was wrong about the red Chevrolet. I saw it pulling away from the curb near 39th and Oregon around the time I lost sight of him and thought it might have been him. But I’ve since seen the car parked back in the same spot so it must belong to a resident there. I have no idea how the guy disappeared so quickly or if someone picked him up. The last I saw him he was standing on Oregon between 39th and 40th looking up at the wiring on a utility pole.

Sorry, comment time is over.
