Reader report: Double trouble at 35th/Roxbury

From the WSB inbox:

My name is Cody, and I live on the corner of 35th and Roxbury. Monday morning my car was parked across from the Freedom Church on Roxbury and I had found that someone had flexed my window damaging it and broke in trashing my car and throwing everything out of my glovebox trying to find something. Living in Seattle I’ve learned to keep nothing of value in my car so the only thing they got was a broken iPhone charger :). This morning I walked out to my car parked on 35th and found that someone had side swiped me, taking out my back tail light, and mirror and leaving a nice big white scrape all along the driver’s side. This has not really been my week. I just wanted to let people know to park at your own risk on 35th and Roxbury.

Cody…. :o( I’m so sorry that you got nailed – twice, even. I hope the rest of the week is better, and that the damage to your car is fixed soon.

Aw, Cody, that stinks. I’m sorry to hear it.
Driving down Delridge on the way to work this morning, it was apparent the drunk drivers had been out in force last night. One nice shiny new silver car was completely smashed, and pushed up onto the curb. Someone hit it pretty hard.

Most of the main streets in our general vicinity are not great places to park. Sadly, there aren’t always many other options.

check your insurance and try to get a low deductible for uninsured motorist coverage if you park on the street. Hit and runs (when parked) usually fall under the uninsured motorist category. I’ve had this happen way too many times. sorry to hear.

Generally speaking, UM covg deductibles are: If someone hits you and you have no idea who it is, your deductible is $300. If someone hits you and has no insurance, the deductible is $100. If you don’t carry comp and collision, it is a good idea to have UM.

We also live on 35th and Roxbury, but on the west side down the hill a bit from the church. 4 weeks ago, my mother’s rental car was side swiped and her driver side window was taken off. No note, no witnesses.$500 dollars later…
I’ve noticed an increase in traffic, and an increase in speeding in the last 2 years. Our section of Roxbury is a 30mph zone (unlike the rest of 35th, which is 35mph), and we frequently see people speeding up once they pass Barton, reaching speeds of 45+. This has made it dangerous to park and dangerous to cross.
On a completely different note, I have seen pretty regular sketchy activity at the NE corner (in front of the mini mart) in the past – people driving by then parking out of sight, passengers getting in – then out only minutes later. Calling 911 has been fruitless.

We live south of this area and I have to say its gotten bad, traffic wise. I know that with all of the cuts coming, its probably not likely that we will get continued SPD speeding watches set up.
On another note, several street lights are also out in this area, and I have reported them 3 times over the last 2 months to the city but see that they are still out. If you are in the area, jot down the pole number and report it to City Light, we need those street lights back on!

I live right on 35th and Roxbury too. About a month ago, my girlfriend’s car was sideswiped while she was parked on 35th across from the church. Luckily, she only lost a mirror.

Sorry, comment time is over.
