Bag-fee battle side note: California lawsuit

This just popped up on the LA Times Twitter feed we monitor (remember, you can follow us on Twitter, at westseattleblog; we also have set up a Twitter account for our partner site at whitecenternow): The “Save the Plastic Bag Coalition” has sued the Southern California city of Manhattan Beach over its plastic-bag ban, claiming the city failed to analyze environmental effects of the ban.

Hmm, I wonder if they’ll sue Seattle since Seattle apparently DID do an impact study, but chose to ignore it.

So you have to prove the environmental problems of plastic bags before banning them eh?? Did they have to prove the environmental innocence of the bags before beginning to sell them?

LOL on petrochemical industry forcing governments to spend OUR tax dollars to prove a negative. Of course, the joke’s on us come tax time.
    .
Bag manufacturers will use any tool to stay in business. It’s understandable but as a taxpayer I choose to put my foot down and cut them off as best I can – by not signing their petition.

Oh, and MAS, if what you mean by “ignore” is “not go nearly as far as the sweeping recommendations in the report and just ditch all plastic items and more,” um, sure. I’m thinking something about a baby and bathwater here…

Sorry, comment time is over.
