Random acts of art: New “Art Attack” in West Seattle overnight

Checked your doorstep this morning? Your home might be among those randomly chosen by a group of “art attackers” who got together late last night to create and distribute whimsical homemade recycled-items art, like what’s shown above, and to the left. If this sounds familiar – they took inspiration from “West Seattle Art Attack,” whose secret surprise missions were chronicled here last year, but it’s a whole different group of people – read on for more pix and info:

It was a festive atmosphere, maybe something like Santa’s workshop, when we dropped by the semi-secret location where the “art attackers” were using materials like those to make creations like this:

They shared snacks, materials, laughs; somebody’s dog roamed around trying to make friends; finished pieces waited to be gathered up when the “art attackers” fanned out to find homes for their work.

More than a few birdhouses, like this one with colorful marbles inside:

The preprinted note left with each creation ends with the declaration, “Art is good for you.” The group we met last night clearly had a good time crafting and delivering it; for those who find the special deliveries, they’re hoping the feeling will be mutual.

this looks like great fun…both for those who made the art and those who find it on their doorstep… wish i had been so lucky… to be either donor or recipient… what a great idea.

Also spotted some “Tag! You’re it!” tags outside Uptown Espresso this morning. Little postcard art, and an envelope to “pay it forward”

We found an adorable birdhouse on our front porch this morning!! There wasn’t a note attached to the birdhouse, but we had a feeling we had been “Art Attacked”! Sure enough, after looking at the WS blog we spotted our birdhouse in one of the pictures! Thank you so much, what a great way to start our weekend! (We live on the 52nd block of 45th Ave SW.)

WSB comes through again — I’ve always read about these (kinds of) events, and now, thanks to the blog comments, I actually “know” recipients.
You know, there’s no reason we couldn’t all do random acts once in a while — just for the h*** of it.
Thank you all!

Delightful, creative, exuberant, encouraging, inspiring, unauthorized… OOPS. ULP.
Wait, this was done without official PERMISSION, licensing, and due tsk-tsking, in Seattle? Anonymously? IN THE DARK? Without PERSOMABLE RESPONSAMABILITY?
Countdown to the 2008 Nickels/Allen/Gates emergency anti-art ordinance, or just another Strip Mall Boys confiscation… 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…

My house was “attacked” with an array of articles, an orange-yarn tripod-teepee, and to poles decorated with blue bead hangnings and a bottle of blue marbles. My neighbor called me an told me to check out my lawn. It was very cool and surprising. Thanks Art-Vandals!

Homeward Pet received at least five donations as a result of the art attack. I’m not sure who to thank for initiating the donation but if you are reading this THANK YOU on behalf of our homeless dogs and cats.
Best,
Steve
