Reader Recommendation Request: Brake pads
December 19, 2007 at 8:24 pm | In Reader recommendations | 24 CommentsFrom Kate:
I have an Audi that needs new brake pads and I would like to take it to a reputable shop but I haven’t done this in West Seattle. Can you recommend a good local place for brake repair?

Westside Imports on Alaska between 35th and Fauntleroy. I’ve been taking my Hondas there for over a decade and my mum has always taken her Subaru there. They’re the kind of folks who, after the dealer tells you to get something done to your car for about a zillion dollars, they’ll look at it and say, “you don’t need that, you need this instead and it’s gonna cost about a hundred bucks.” I love those guys. Carl’s your man: 206.937.0200.

Complete Auto Care on 35th & Holden. They do good, quick work and are reasonably priced.
Comment by Lachlan — 9:06 pm December 19, 2007 #
Try Firestone on California and Edmonds. They are professional and my sense they charge reasonable prices. They are customer friendly.
Comment by Dave Gould — 9:20 pm December 19, 2007 #
Doyle’s Automotive. They’re good honest people who do great work.
Comment by Ron Burgundy — 9:32 pm December 19, 2007 #
I second Firestone, for what it’s worth.

My Dad went to Doyle’s for 40 year’s, and swore by them!

Tom’s Automotive. I’ve been going there for years (as have my neighbors). Great service.

Master’s Auto on 16th in White Center is wonderful. Good honest mechanics. They are right across from the Albertson’s. I wouldn’t take my car to anyone else.

Complete Auto Repair (CAR) is the one at 35th & Holden. We’ve been very happy with them for about 15 years.
Comment by Jerald — 11:23 pm December 19, 2007 #
I took my Lexus to Tom’s Automotive for brakes and I was shocked that they said I didn’t need them yet. I was so impressed that six months later when I was truly in need I took it back to them. They were reasonable and quick.

Doyles is a great shop, very trustworthy.

We’ve been using Courtesy Tire, at Edmunds and California just south of Alaska Junction, for several years and are really pleased with their service and followup…. Tires, brakes, tune ups, and oil changes!
Comment by Steven — 7:27 am December 20, 2007 #
Masters is fabulous, I have been taking all of my vehiclas there for over 15 yrs.
Comment by nunya — 8:30 am December 20, 2007 #
Ditto on Westside Import Repair, those guys are the best. And don’t be fooled by ‘import’, we’ve taken Fords, Saturns and Dodges.
My dad, on the other hand, went to Doyle’s for forty years and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Comment by fiz — 8:35 am December 20, 2007 #
I went to Courtesy Tire once at Edmunds and California and felt that they recommended things that did NOT need to be done. Their prices seemed high too.
Comment by s — 8:36 am December 20, 2007 #
Dere Auto on 35th & Barton. I just had my brakes done there recently. They are honest, straightforward and inexpensive.
Comment by Jen V. — 10:29 am December 20, 2007 #
Another ditto for Westside Import Repair..I haven’t had brakes done with them yet but have taken my cars to them (initially on a friend’s recommendation) for several years now for all kinds of other things and they’re great! Honest and reliable – yeah for Carl!
Comment by V Bar — 10:50 am December 20, 2007 #
Complete Auto Care is the only choice!
Comment by Teresa P — 11:45 am December 20, 2007 #
I heartily recommend both Tom’s and Courtesy tire. I have always been treated fairly (including being told about work that didn’t need to be done). Both are also certified to do emission test work which can be really important if your car cannot be made to pass the emissions test.
Comment by Bill Hibler — 3:25 pm December 20, 2007 #
If you have an Audi, take it Hans VW & Audi on 35th. Great guys, good work.
Comment by Justin — 3:55 pm December 20, 2007 #
Ok WSB where is my comment from this afternoon?? Please say you are not suddenly editing out ppl’s comments?!
Comment by A — 8:06 pm December 20, 2007 #
I’d recommend Elliot Tire on Fauntleroy–They’re very good at diagnosing and repairing car problems.
Comment by CynicalGuy — 8:33 pm December 21, 2007 #
Hans VW does great work on Audis.
