New WSB page, new WSB sponsor

This morning, we launched a new WSB page to help you enjoy the holiday season — our Holidays page (it has its own tab in the navigation under the header throughout the site, or you can bookmark it here). Right now, it features West Seattle holiday events through New Year’s, plus our ongoing West Seattle Christmas lights map and a link to our West Seattle Christmas tree price check; at the top of the page each day, you will also see highlighted holiday events for that day/night. wscc.bmpThis page is presented by a brand-new WSB sponsor, West Seattle Christian Church (on the north side of The Junction, at the SE corner of 42nd/Genesee). West Seattle Christian Church is a growing church offering a lot more than worship services — it also is parent to the Ginomai artists’ studio facility right across the street at the SW corner of 42nd/Genesee — which among other things is a must-visit stop during the monthly West Seattle Art Walk; the next one is coming up Thursday 12/13 — we stopped at Ginomai during last month’s Art Walk and met several artists, then browsed the merchandise others were selling in the Ginomai community room. In addition, WSCC is home to West Seattle Christian Preschool, which is currently enrolling (find out more here). We thank WSCC for supporting WSB, along with our other sponsors, who are listed on this page along with info on how prospective advertisers can join them. (And if you have suggestions for additional features to add to the Holidays page, please let us know – we’ll be tweaking it at least once daily as the season rolls on!)

I feel so sorry for Hotwire. They were your first sponsors, but with no logo and only a little bit of text, they just disappear into the background.

Huindekmi – I don’t necessarily feel bad for Hotwire because this blog, and the West Seattle business community are very close and support one another. For example, I do believe that Hotwire does the Sidewalk Cinema during the summer, and some of the other sponsors here on WSB collaborate with them to make our community just that. I can see where or how you may have gotten that misconception though.

Thanks for not shutting out the latest sponsor, WSB!

Just FYI, we currently have three types of ad opportunities offered to prospective sponsors – text, display in the sidebar, banner for “inside” pages (the West Seattle Christian Church ad on the Holidays page is our first example of that – the traffic, events, and blogs pages are waiting to be “adopted” too :) …). Hotwire, whose fine folks we love dearly, chose a text ad. Since they were the first advertiser, they got the first position in the rail … so they are consistently seen “above the fold” – although everybody in the sidebar gets seen in almost every pageview, since we update the site so frequently, unless you have the page open and are hitting “refresh” all day, you generally have to keep scrolling down to see all the new stuff we’ve added since your last visit earlier in the day, or the day before, or whenever. Also, all sidebar ads are currently seen on every page of the site – so every pageview is an ad view – yesterday, when we set a new WSB record (thanks SO MUCH to everyone who helped by sending photos and info for the flood coverage!), that’s 15,000 times (per Google Analytics). More than you wanted to know, maybe, but since you guys care enough to discuss it :) we thought we would elaborate.

I remember when I first found this blog…it’s truly amazing what it’s turned into since then. Truly awesome, and a great source of info, and sometimes even venting. While I don’t advertise per se, you allow me to link my name to my website, and that has helped me, too. So I appreciate it very much. Hey, you never know…maybe I’ll reevaluate my marketing strategies after the New Year :)

Sorry, comment time is over.
