Driven over the edge

truckweb.jpg

From WSB contributing photographer Matt Durham: Cody Blue of West Seattle waits for a tow truck to pull his Chevy from its precarious position at 5916 Beach Dr. this afternoon. “I was visiting a friend and misjudged the curve to the driveway,” Cody explained. “I was blinded by the hood of my truck as I climbed over the hump and didn’t realize the roadway narrowed.” Cody’s truck suffered little damage and didn’t cause any property damage. (Prints of Matt’s WSB photos and his other work are available through his site, MattDurhamPhotography.com.)

    I remember the first time I drove a truck……

Great photo! I wonder if Chevy would be embarrassed to see one of their big pickups needing a tow from this wall.

Cody’s a pretty good sport if you ask me!

This is a great example of a too big truck driven by someone who probably doesn’t need it and probably doesn’t use it as it was intended. If you can’t see over the hood of your truck and you can’t see the road you have no business driving it. I hope the tow cost big bucks. No sympathy from this girl truck driver!

That almost looks like a PhotoShop. That truck is huge!

Any pickup driver who hasn’t dangled the machine over an embankment isn’t trying hard enough. (Hi, Diana!)

    Two comments fro the photographer:

    1. Cody was taking full responsibility for his mistake and made no excuses for his misjudgment. He was very likable and concerned for the property owner.
We all live in glass houses.
    2. This photo was taken with a 17mm wide angle lens.
Other than dodging, burning and cropping I did not alter the photo.
As a photojournalist I have a responsibility to tell the truth within my photos. I will be clear with the WSB readers if the photo tells something other than the truth of the moment.

    Thank you for the comments.

Did parking enforcement get there quick enough to issue a citation ?

Diana…I was thinking something quite similar, although I’m not a truck driver. I was simply wondering about the symbolism of the HUGE truck – lol…

  • Bob Loblaw December 4, 2007 (9:44 pm)

Wow, Matt. Not trying to accuse ya of anything. Just saying the truck is so big it looked altered. (Bob Loblaw is also a journalist — unfortunately it takes me 1,000 words to tell the story you told with that shot — and appreciates your standards).

Hope there wasn’t much damage to the truck. Cody’s got a nice rig.

I have made my share of mistakes in my lifetime, but I always had the sense to get the hell out and not stand there, give my name and let someone take my picture!!!

Maybe ya shouldn’t polish your hood next time there Cody. That thar hood looks like you could do your makeup in it. Just keep it warshed but no wax. no’itImean?
