brucekingfirstatejuniorgolforg.jpgTen days till Freeway Fright ’07. You can skip the first day entirely by staying right here in West Seattle and golfing for a good cause: the first-ever Seniors for Juniors Golf Tournament @ WS Golf Course. 1 pm August 10th, hosted by local sportscasting legend Bruce King (photo right, from the Fir State Junior Golf Foundation site). Read all about it here, including how to register. (Getting in on this entitles you to more than golf — it’s a full day of fun, including refreshments, entertainment, and dinner.)

  1. I signed up to play in this the First Annual Seniors for Juniors golf tournament and I am looking forward to all this event brings. A great day of golf on one of the nation’s best public courses sounds like alot more fun than standing on the bus for a few hours. Tell all of our local West Seattle players that this is a unique opportunity to support our golf course, businesses that have donated and the youth that want to learn to play. Let’s show the parks department that we really appreciate the improvements they have made to the course for this to be possible and sign up to support Fir State Junior Golf Foundation.

  3. Azalea Software is a small software boutique here in West Seattle. We’re minor sponsors of said golf tournament as well as the Hope Heart Classic. Part of our self-tithing mission.

  4. Have played in this event before and it’s always one of the best. Very reasonable cost, and it will be fun to get to play with juniors this year. Fir State’s been around for ages and their junior program was the only one in the inner city for decades. Good folks, and good golf.

  5. I didn’t golf but I went to the dinner and it was great to see the young people interacting with the “seniors.” What a great way for young golfers of color to be exposed to wider perspectives and kudos to the adults for mentoring and welcoming the kids for an afternoon.

  6. The Fir State charity events are always fun. Prior to the Seniors for Juniors they held golf tournaments at Jefferson with hosts such as Ken Griffey Jr, Mike Cameron, Nate McMillian and others. For an organization with limited resources they put on GREAT charity events at reasonble costs. Also, the West Seattle golf course is a sleeper. Great views on the back 9 and the course has it’s challenges. We and others need to continue to support this foundation which promotes and supports golf and education for inner city youths. Not only particate in the golf tournament but get involved in the auctions! It’s for a good cause!…Vince
