Pro-Charlestown picketing today

Can the Charlestown Cafe stay in its longtime home, or will the property owner continue the process of booting it so a big-box store can move in? Today’s the day Charlestown supporters plan to make some noise with a picketing demonstration along Cali in front of the restaurant. Lots of info, and downloadable sign art (example at left), at Our Town West Seattle. (P.S. to demonstration attendees: If you take picketing pix and post them to your own site or a gallery site like Flickr, please leave a comment here afterward, with a link; we’ll be away from the computer much of the day and unable to post anything you send us directly.)

So is the Petco in the Junction moving to the Charlestown cafe site? If so, what’s moving into the current Junction Petco site?

The “official” word from Petco is..”It’s not a done deal”…but they are considering the option. That’s one of the big problems…they won’t say anything, and the property owner won’t communicate with the owner of the restaurant.
And I don’t think anyone has heard about what would go into the present Petco Bldg., if and when they move out? anyone?

Considering that the parking lot behind Petco is valued at over a million dollars, I would think the store itself would be a teardown for street level retail and upperstory multiuse.

Maybe WSB can link it here, but search key words “Harbor Properties” to find the posting from last August that gives you the low down. Unless things have changed, the folks behind Harbor Steps own Petco parking lot (some of the property put up after the monorail’s death). They plan to develop it. Then Petco loses convenient parking, looks to move to Charlestown space, Charlestown looses their building, and so go the dominos…
