Cali makeover crew moves north

When the city reported that the repaving was moving fast, that was no exaggeration. If you have to drive the north half of Cali, be forewarned that as of this morning, the heavy equipment has all moved north, currently focusing on a stretch from Admiral Safeway to McDonald’s — particularly challenging for drivers, considering there are two schools in that stretch (Lafayette Elementary and WS High). The work this morning is centering on the west side of the street and the crews are still straightening out the traffic flow on the east, so be patient — and watchful — our trip through was a bit of an adventure.

I drove by Q 13, Angela King?, on California Ave. near Dakota this morning about 6:30. They were taping a story which I heard was about the congestion problems that come with road work.

Does anybody actually call California Ave. “Cali”? It reminds me of L.L. Cool J, not anything to do with West Seattle.

I like the no parking on the street by Safeway and the no parking at safeway. Glad I am in walking distance!

Wes…I’m with you…I live across the street from Admiral Safeway, on the east side…it’s my refrigerator away from home :) I can walk to almost anything I need…all in my neighborhood, even PCC.I guess that means parking on my street will now be at a premium.

Jan, I am going through hell parking wise right now down near Charlestown Street. Good luck all. This better be worth it. Prep. to have your driveway blocked by jerky parkers and be prepared to call the non emergency line. They never responded to me but maybe you all will have better luck?

Todd, luckily for me I live in an apartment that comes with a parking space. But I work at home (massage therapist), and my clients need a place to park when they come here. I realize that this is just for a few months, and no more potholes and patches will presumably be worth it. I feel sympathy for homeowners with driveways that are constantly blocked, etc. Those jerky parkers lost their brains when the asphalt was torn up, I suppose…

Denny, ‘Does anybody actually call California Ave. “Cali” ? I have heard of L. L. Cool J, but “Cali” reminds me of a drug cartel. Not sure it was/is spelled the same way. We certainly don’t need of THAT around here though.

We’ve explained it before but guess we’re just going to have to add the Cali explainer to the FAQ. As for whether anyone actually uses it besides us, yes, there is actually a business on Cali with “Cali” in its name.

Sorry, comment time is over.
